On this day in 2026,
Sox are sold in sizes six to 12;
That is, one size fits all,
From six to twelve, inclusively.
In times to come this will be
Something to smile at,
proof of our primitive ways.

At a convenient price point
We now wear sizes six to twelve;
Walk, accustomed to discomfort;
And pretend we are free.
We talk. We vote, don’t we?
This too will bring a smile
In those times to come.

In cars shaped like rocket ships,
We drive to where the road takes us,
At speeds that give us time enough
To watch TV at the other end.
For hours. All of us. Even those
who say they read—their lives
Flattened on small black screens.

The smile will become a laugh.
It will be so much better then.
Plugged in. No need of screens.
Sizes six to twelve will be unnecessary.
When we are driven. No sox. No sex.
One body suit. No need to walk.
The body bag will be enough.
